C WELCOME NEWS C Scaled down Plans for the the DEVELOPMENT at 89 SOUTH ST, DA06/3122 were re-submitted last year however the building remains at seven storeys and does not comply with the existing Development Control Plan (DCP 56). Council had asked the applicant to reduce the height and bulk so that is compatible with previous determinations in the Ulladulla CBD. Feedback to the U&DCF would suggest this development is out of place in Ulladulla. A residents briefing meeting was held on Wed 29th August 2007 with many community members objecting to the bulk and scale of the building. On April 10 2008 Council staff refused approval of the DA. |

High Rise Survey -
Residents Have Their Say on Ulladulla’s Future
Residents gave their opinion on the future development of Ulladulla via a survey delivered to over 5000 homes in the district. The Survey was strongly supported by The Ulladulla & Districts Community Forum. The results from the questionnaire, titled 'Ulladulla - Your Town, Your Future' indicate that 87% of those residents that responded to the survey did not want buildings higher than four storeys.
Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock organised the survey and analysed the results. The results will be passed onto Shoalhaven City Council and the State Government. "This questionnaire provided an opportunity for residents to have their say on how Ulladulla progresses in terms of high rise and the development of Ulladulla Harbour. The survey was aimed at bringing people together so the town can progress with good planning and public consultation," Mrs Hancock said she was interested in learning people's views and had encourage everyone to fill in the survey and have a say in the future of the town. Her sentiments were echoed by Committee members of the Ulladulla Forum and it’s representatives on the DCP review Working Party. Mrs Hancock said she believes the majority of people in Ulladulla would like to see the town progress, but with good planning. The survey posed questions about high-rise buildings, their use and location. It also addressed the need for more public events and festivals, greening the town, retaining harbour views and whether or not a major shopping centre, such as Stockland, is needed. Mrs Hancock said everyone should have his or her say on this important issue. Forum chairperson Jan Shalhoub said. "This was a great opportunity for people to get involved in the future planning of Ulladulla. The forum is really grateful for Shelley's willingness to take this survey and, cover the cost and take care of its administration. It's something residents have been asking Council to do since last April’s public meeting about high-rise buildings.”
"This survey reflects the true feelings of the
community when it comes to development," Mrs Shalhoub said. “These
results will help determine how the Forum can truly reflect and
represent the wishes of local residents and ratepayers.” |
